Male educators represent only 2% of professionals in Australia in the Early Childhood field. At Chapter 1 we value the presence of Jarrod in the daily environment as he provides a rarity in the industry and he is a wonderful affirmation of gender equality, equal opportunity and recognition of the importance of promoting positive role models.
Professional male educators who build trusting partnerships with children and their families, and work collaboratively with female colleagues, become a valuable resource. Role modelling positive gender behaviours for boys and girls is important and the presence of a male educator can assist in promoting alternative images of masculinity.
"While it is uncommon in society for males to work with young children, I believe it is a gender stereotype and I prefer to see myself simply as a "Teacher" as the children do rather than a Male Teacher.
